Challenge

2010 Aegis IT, LNT Group’s technology solution provider, put forward a solution for LNT to install and support a virtual infrastructure to replace parts of their server environment. This included the ability to replicate the virtual servers to a Huawei S2600 storage system on a regular basis, replacing traditional backup techniques. At the time of purchase Huawei were relatively new to market and it was preferred by LNT Group’s IT department that a competitor’s SAN offering would be used for primary production storage. When the air conditioning units in the LNT Group’s server room failed, not long after the new hardware was installed, this proved a real test to their robustness. While the competitor’s more expensively priced SAN overheated and failed shortly after the air conditioning fault, the Huawei S2600 continued to run consistently and remained stable.

Solution

Although the competitor’s SAN is still in place, its failure under these unusual conditions forced LNT Group’s IT department to reconsider their choice of hardware. When replication to an off-site data centre for backup purposes became a requirement, the decision was an easy one, a second Huawei S2600 was the only hardware considered. LNT currently have two Huawei S2600’s hosting both their on- site and off-site backups with over 9Tb of raw storage available.

Value

The solution, consisting of two Huawei S2600’s, proposed by Aegis IT has provided the LNT Group with a comprehensive on-site and off-site backup solution which was not only an affordable solution that remains reliable it is also easy to manage and maintain. With over 9Tb of storage available across the two SANs there is also room for future expansion of the virtual environment and the option to add solid state disk is available should it ever be required.
